Cisco predicts massive growth in video traffic

Internet video is expected to account for more than 60 per cent of all consumer Web traffic within four years, according to the global networking giant Cisco.
They predict growth in every form of video, including Internet TV, video-on-demand and peer-to-peer (PTP) networking, to such an extent that by 2013 it would take more than half a million years to view all the video crossing the web in a single month.
This is among loads of statistics released in the Cisco Visual Networking Index for 2008-2013.
“The figures are staggering,” commented Maurice Smith, MD of TVI. “Video came late to the Web, yet it is rapidly becoming the single most important form of media.
“Video began as a consumer thing on the Web, with everything from animated funnies to the weird and wonderful on YouTube. Now business is following suit, creating and originating content for their own websites as well as social media sites across the Web.”
In recent weeks, TVI has produced high-quality videos in HD for a venture capital fund, several high-tech companies in the energy and computing sectors, the public sector and the food industry.
